Today
Amidst
Red white and blue
Hot dogs and hamburgers
Fireworks
And parades
We celebrate our freedom.
But I can't help but wonder
If we're living in freedom
When we're slaves to
Consumption
Indulgence
Self
Technology
Media
Our own messed up desires.
Being an American does not make me free,
Though I thank God for the freedoms this country allows
And the soldiers who have lived and died to secure that freedom.
Being a follower of Christ makes me free,
Because God has rescued me from myself.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

beautifully stated!!
Nice! Remarkably similar to my sermon yesterday! Basically I said, we can be a slave to ourselves (solitary confinement) or slaves of Christ (free.) Rock on...
Very cool, Brian. I like the solitary confinement parallel.
Wish we could've been there to hear the sermon! Is it recorded?
